WELCOME MESSAGE

The Susquehanna State Park is a pristine area that is enjoyed daily by people from many different places. It is a home to many historical sites, campgrounds, great fishing, hiking and biking trails, etc.

Recently this park and many across Maryland have come under the attack of land application of Class B Sewage Sludge. Help us in contacting our representatives to enact legislation to save our Maryland State Parks.

Sludge is defined as “a viscous, semisolid mixture of bacteria and virus-laden matter, toxic metals, organic chemicals, and settled solids removed form domestic and industrial wastewater at sewage treatment plants” [HCDES]. The sewage treatment plant process concentrates up to 90% of dioxins, toxic metals, pesticides, hazardous industrial and radioactive wastes, disease-causing bacteria, viruses, and parasites in leftover sludge [IJE 1999]. Incredible as it seems, this toxic product is sold to the public as “soil fertilizer” and is spread on our farm and grazing lands; on school grounds, ball fields, parks and golf courses.

We are committed to educating the public about Sewage Sludge as well as the restrictions and inherent risks associated with Class B Sewage Sludge. It is clear that there is a lack of communication between those handling and spreading Class B Sewage Sludge and those receiving it on their property. Join with us in spreading the word and supporting the legislation being filed by our legislators.
